Henness Pass Road - October 2008 - Page 6

My nephew and I drove the Henness Pass Road from Verdi, Nevada to Camptonville, California on Friday/Saturday of October 24/25, 2008. I met up with him in Stateline, Nevada after riding the Amtrak bus from Sacramento's Amtrak station to Stateline.

Lenny Taylor > Setting up camp at Jackson Meadows Reservoir. We were fortunate, becuse this camp had "officially" closed the day before we arrived. There were so many campers who had shown up that they allowed us to camp in the overflow area. The running water and restrooms were all shut down, but it was nice to have a fire-ring and a table to use.

Lenny Taylor > It only took a couple of minutes to clear away the small stones and get our tent set up for the night.

Lenny Taylor > We grilled a couple of huge steaks over the fire. There's something primeval about eating a smoky-tasting piece of meat on a cold evening. A little salt and pepper, and we were in heaven!

Lenny Taylor > You can tell that I was happy about this dinner - multiple photographs!

Lenny Taylor > Greg heating soup to go with his steak. Our tent is visible behind him. Being the smart guy that he is, Greg wisely packed a couple of very comfortable camp chairs with our provisions. We spent a couple of hours telling lies to each other around the fire after dinner.

Lenny Taylor > That little shovel proved to be a great tool for managing the fire!

Lenny Taylor > By the time night had fallen, outside temperatures were in the 40s. We sat close by the fire and had a great evening.
