Henness Pass Road - October 2008 - Page 5

My nephew and I drove the Henness Pass Road from Verdi, Nevada to Camptonville, California on Friday/Saturday of October 24/25, 2008. I met up with him in Stateline, Nevada after riding the Amtrak bus from Sacramento's Amtrak station to Stateline.

Lenny Taylor > Kyburz flat had been a major stop along the Henness Pass Road, with a hotel, stage stop, corrals, etc. It was interesting to see how little was left after just over 125 years.

Lenny Taylor > My nephew, Greg, with his Jeep Wrangler, our trusty vehicle for our 62 mile trek. Much of our time was spent between 6,000 and 7,000 feet above sea-level, but we were fortunate to have nice weather allowing us to keep the top down to enjoy the views.

Lenny Taylor > Greg Taylor, The man, the myth, the legend. I have to say nice things because we were way out in the middle of nowhere and he owned the vehicle!

Lenny Taylor > This is representative of what most of the drive was like. You could take almost any pickup truck on this drive if you paid close attention to the occasional big rock in the road. There were three or four cuts across the road that would have high-centered most sedans.
